January opening – Principal’s Statement

Dear Parents,

I hope you’re all enjoying the Christmas break and managing to keep yourselves and families safe.

Following the announcement by the Education Secretary, Gavin Williamson, yesterday, I am writing to confirm that Horsmonden Primary Academy will be closed from next week onwards. At this time, I cannot confirm when we will reopen fully but I will keep you updated with information as I receive it.

To ensure that learning is not lost, all children will be learning online via Google Classroom from next week onwards. There will be a daily register on each child’s Google Classroom that children will need to sign into in order for us to track their engagement with learning in combination with reviewing their work.

In order to give teachers time to adapt their plans and prepare online lessons, Monday 4th January will be an additional Inset Day.

The only children we will be open for from next week onwards will be those children who are considered vulnerable or where both parents are critical workers.

The list of those jobs that are considered to be critical by the Government can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-maintaining-educational-provision/guidance-for-schools-colleges-and-local-authorities-on-maintaining-educational-provision

If you consider both parents to have jobs that are critical and need to work Monday-Friday then please contact the school office – office@horsmondenprimaryacademy.org.uk to request a place for your child. It is important you do not send your child without having had a place confirmed as we will only have a skeleton staff in school. All teachers will be working from home to be on hand to support children/parents during the school day with home learning.

I will email parents who have requested ‘critical worker’ places on Monday to confirm if this is possible. I will also email parents of vulnerable children on Monday too. The school day will be 8:45am-3:20pm and children will need to bring a packed lunch.

Children who are in receipt of free school meals will be provided with packed lunches and I will have more information about this on Monday.

I know this is all very short notice, and I apologise for interrupting your New Year’s Eve celebrations. Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions.

Kind Regards,

Hayley Sharp | Principal
