Year 5 Water Filtration Experiment

Year 5 pupils are pictured learning about filtering water and identifying the soluble and insoluble substances in dirty water.

Children in Year 5 used their scientific knowledge and vocabulary to identify the soluble and insoluble substances within some dirty water. They then used their knowledge of filtration to filter the dirty water using colanders, sieves and filter paper until they got their water as clean as they could. Children were challenged by thinking how they could remove the solute (salt) from the water and they came up with the idea of using evaporation to separate the solution back into salt and water. The children worked collaboratively and communicated their findings brilliantly!
