Equality Information

The Equality Act at Horsmonden Primary Academy

As an academy we do not discriminate against pupils or staff because of their sex, race, disability, religion or beliefs or sexual orientation.   We have established a clear vision with equality of opportunity at the very heart of this, with an unwavering commitment to ensure the success of every single pupil.

Through avoiding discrimination and promoting equality within our curriculum this supports our agenda of improving the attainment and progress of all pupils, regardless of their circumstances and backgrounds.

Everything we do endeavours to be fair, non-discriminatory and not put individuals or groups of people at a disadvantage.

The Act uses the term “protected characteristics” to refer to aspects of a person’s identity.  The protected characteristics of age and marriage and civil partnership apply to schools as employers, but not in relation to their provision for pupils.

The protected characteristics are:

  • Age.
  • Disability.
  • Gender reassignment.
  • Marriage and civil partnership.
  • Pregnancy and maternity.
  • Race.
  • Religion or belief.
  • Sex.
  • Sexual orientation.
